You must have added a security password to the WD MyBook. If you did, then next time you plug the WD MyBook to the Mac, the WP Unlocker will not start automatically - it is a glitch i have seen only with the MyBook. Since the unlocker will not show up, the hard drive will remain unseen by the mac. I have a 1TB Seagate (FAT32) and 4TB Seagate (Mac OS Extended), and the 1TB works perfectly fine under USB while my 4TB just shows up in disk utility. I have 2 external drives that do not mount. And my apple usb wired keyboard doesnt work either. My WD external hard drive will not mount and does not show up anywhere. I have an old WD MyBook which is faulty. For years the drive has been noisy (rumbles when writing), and has more recently disconnected itself when writing. Not having used it for many months, a couple of days of go I installed a Mac OS on it, since when it no longer mounts (recognised by System Profiler, but not Disk Utility) when connected to a Mac.
